All things considered, the MC is too bad for the story. I can't complain about his stupidity, as it's part of his background story, but it's clear he doesn't mesh well with the world. He's not disruptive enough to be interesting, nor does he adapt enough to have some level of harmony. A perfectly bad middleground.
