Technically, it's netori, not netorare here. Netori is when the protagonist/sympathetic character steals the antagonist/unsympathetic character's important person. Netorare is when the opposite happens.

I would LOVE to see a longer series with a plot built around something like this. To flesh it out a bit more, maybe have the Yankee and the girl be childhood friends. He would love to date her, but he doesn't think a delinquent like him belongs with a pure girl like her, and he's happy she finds a nice boy to date. But then her attitude starts to change, she gets more and more depressed, maybe on one or two days she shows up in a daze like she'd just been through something she doesn't want to even imagine. So the guy asks around and finds out that her boyfriend is a guy with a bad reputation for emotional, psychological and physical abuse as well as not taking no for an answer. He digs and digs and eventually, based on things he'd said and done with previous girlfriends, comes up with a plan to get his CF away from the bastard, but the plan may just result in him and her doing things he'd never imagined doing...
