Is there any way to deal with this? I've read the rules and there doesn't seem to be anything on this topic. I know no one owns a series but I think we can all agree that taking over a series that had a group already actively releasing chapters just to fuck with them is pretty scummy, not to mention most of the time this happens the new releases tend to be either of worse quality or not able to release the chapters at the same pace as the original group

@Faulheit Best way to handle it is pretty much based on your feelings on it. If you feel strongly enough about a specific group, just follow the group and read when they update. Otherwise, you will likely have to simply watch and check the manga homepage when you see an update has occurred, and only read when you see the version you prefer.

I will add that on occasion, the one "sniping" might have a legitimately better job than the other, although more often than not, it is the opposite case since they are not really as invested as the original group. Personally, I hate it when someone posts a chapter or set of chapter that are well ahead of what has already been put out. That is just rude and a sign of impatience.

@Faulheit Keep up the pace? I know the one sniping is being rude but they indeed put some time and effort for their release too.
Things might be even more complicated if any of the groups are scanlates for revenues but when not, they can always just work together for making better releases.

What's your suggestion? Release is release. You think it's worse quality someone else may think it's acceptable as long as readable.

From user POV you can ignore release that you don't like.

From sniped group POV there's more options - you can ignore it, you can release faster than sniper or you can QQ on forum.

As you said yourself "no one owns a series" so release is release. Moral aspect is just personal opinion.

people who snipe usually don't actually do the work themselves. they're just butthurt users who hop onto a discord, nab the files that are supposed to go to a QC or typesetter, and they dump the files themselves.

then they get a pitiful week of feeling good, but then their "group" dies because they were working off stolen goods in the first place. and in that week they shout bullshit and self-serving things like "they were holding out on us" or "they could have released fast like us!".

after that week they're mysteriously silent, releases dry up as the real hard workers continue at their planned and careful pace or die completely since their work was stolen and the series is dropped in full.

sniping is bad, it's usually done without much thought put into it, and it does more harm than good.
