Damn, is Shimamura just that apathetic or does she actually like her enough to realize this is the best way to go about it? Definitely not how I was expecting it to go

Uhh wtf. Shimamura must be a textbook psychopath or something. She is the most apathetic character I’ve ever seen. Why even love somebody so uncaring.
Right?! At this point in think a better end game would be for Adachi to end up with the childhood friend (who's name eludes me at the moment), they can bond over the scars Shimamura is going to give both of them.

The author knows how to build suspense. We're put into the same position as Adachi. We have no idea what Shimamura is thinking, but we have the instinct that something isn't quite right.

I've been in a position similiar to Adachi. Reading this is giving me a similiar pain in my stomach. Good art draws emotion from the viewer. I am feeling physical discomfort from how well this captures the dysfunctions of two people combining to create a true Hell

If I was Adachi, I'd be more anxious and go insane by how Shimamura went back to normal after hearing her crashout. Even I feel uncomfortable reading this.

Many people relate to Adachi. Am I the only person who can relate to Shimamura?
No, me too.

I have to admit I'm also fairly passive on my personal relationships, but not really apathetic to Shimamura's level.

I've read too many people blaming it all on Shimamura and I just can't agree with that. She clearly made a lot of mistakes. Because she can't see the red flags, she goes along with everything that Adachi wants. And that only feeds on her unhealthy attachment.

In her mind she's just trying to please her friend. You can't really blame a teenage girl, especially one like Shimamura, for not expecting the disastrous consequences of that. But you cannot make her responsible for her friend's mental health.
