Out of all of the Japanese tropes, I probably hate this one the most.

Not switching to first name from now on is a crime against relationships.

I get it. Different culture. Blah blah blah. But as far as I know, even in the future when they are already living together they still don't switch to using their first names, or even nicknames. It's frankly retarded.

the trope itself might be annoying but as you said is a different culture, going first name basis is the equivalent to pet names for them, you would get as embarassed if you started to call your partner "honey", specially as a teenager because teenagers get embarassed by showing affection and thats where the trope is more common.
about the future if i don't remember wrong, they do aknowledge that they are weird for not changing that, is treated as another one of the thing they do that are plain weird because they both are weird and their relationship isn't normal, so in my opinion is justified for them not to change (also, is literally the name of the manga, so i think the mangaka tought it would be cute to keep it)
i do agree that a normal relationship should use first names by this point but they aren't a normal relationship so 🤷‍♀️

I know all that, but I don't care. The "it's their culture" excuse only works if you believe that all parts of all cultures deserve respect. Have fun justifying cannibal culture. Sure, calling your loved one by their last name for years isn't on the same level as cannibalism, but it is retarded.

That's another Japanese trope I dislike. Not putting a name to a yuri couple's relationship, so they just describe themselves as "weird" or "special" or whatever. It happens because same sex marriage isn't legal in Japan and it's somewhat frowned upon, so they tiptoe around the whole concept. I also consider this retarded.

(also, is literally the name of the manga, so i think the mangaka tought it would be cute to keep it)

Now this is the actual reason for sticking to calling each other by their last names.

Whenever a title contains the name of a character in their story, Japanese authors have a tendency to keep using that name regardless of whether it makes sense or not.

They may some times choose to fight this instinct of theirs, but most of the time I've seen them opting for creating retarded justifications for why it makes sense, just to keep the names the same as in the title. Or, it just doesn't get addressed at all.

An easy example where this shite happens too is Hori-san and Miyamura-kun. They still call each other that way even though they became a couple and had sex, just because it's still embarrassing to use their first names. Bitch, please. You two literally fucked already! It's not cute. It's absolutely retarded.

Their relationship isn't even that abnormal in the first place. At least, it doesn't justify them sticking to using their last names.

It's not a big deal. It's a shame that such pedantic detail affects you that much though.

That take is incredibly ignorant and embarrassingly shallow. The comparison to cannibalism is so absurd— a desperate attempt of someone stretching for an extreme analogy to make a non issue seem like some grand moral failing. That's quite a leap you did there. Impressive.

The fact that fans of the same manga which we all agree is great are sitting here arguing over which one of our useless lesbians are more dysfunctional and autistic is hilarious to me

I think Shima will have to be quick to tell Adachi that she doesn't want people to know they are dating? because from the looks of it it seems like Adachi has no issues with screaming that she's her GF aka example the classroom where she almost yelled it out and Shima had to quickly cut it out, I can def see this being a problem soon :worry:

If I were Shimamura, I wouldn't have enough patience to deal with Adachi's jealousy. 'Cause wth was that? 😭
