In the traditional Japanese wedding process, the matchmaker is the person responsible for arranging an omiai, which is the first meeting (at least in theory) between the two potential partners and their guardians or parents in the hope of securing a marriage. This would usually be followed by a courting/dating period. If all goes well, the couple gets engaged and the matchmaker officiates the engagement. If all goes well again, the couple gets married and the matchmaker will arrange all the legal and administrative (or religious) aspects of the ceremony. This includes arranging marriage registry with the civil ward office and inviting the priest who will officiate the wedding. The matchmaker is also responsible for the wedding ceremony (although usually they can subcontract to a wedding planner) and sometimes the reception.

So... How exactly the tanuki plans to get the marriage registration form and fill it is for some reason the biggest question in my mind...

Heh, I really like how the story of how the bakedanuki ended up as the god's host makes perfect sense to everyone involved (including us)

Also, he deserves it.
