I would even say that the author tried to extend the story way before that. It felt like the story was going nowhere when the Taka, the idol girl, was introduced. A large disconnect from the flow. Then the relationship between Usami and Imamura, which was progressing smoothly, was stunted and used for drama to further continue the story.Author is a woman, by the way.
I'm guessing by the 106th chapter or so she began to realize there isn't really that much more she could do to extend the story to explore the already strenuous connection between the ouendan club hijinks and the time travel, so she decided to outline an ending and start it with a pre-redemption downfall arc (you know like in movies where the hero has gotten used to his powers only to meet a massive obstacle or letdown, which the hero eventually manages to overcome right before the story's ending). I realized this after reading the Japanese raws up until the end and re-reading the scanlations. This is the beginning of the end, so enjoy it while it lasts.
Yeah Kubo didn't seem to have planned ahead that much. Having read this manga at least 3 times, you can basically skip all the filler chapters such as the Taka arc or most of the Samahiko stuff, and you will still miss nothing. My impression is that Again suddenly gained some popularity in Japan quite early on so she was forced to think something up that can extend its runtime, only for the manga to suddenly lose popularity again around the 100th chapter or so and at that point Kubo was probably already bored of the Again multiverse.I would even say that the author tried to extend the story way before that. It's as if the author had no choice but to continue the story, because she also went through the Again :V
Such a shame, really. If only the manga was finished after concluding everything nicely, it would've gotten at least an 8 from me. But because of the fillers and inconsequential drama, my opinion of this manga has dropped to 5. Such potential, lost T-TYeah Kubo didn't seem to have planned ahead that much.
