I don't super mind that they're sticking together, since that's the premise. Three broken people in a wild codependency.

I don't really like that the resolution of that arc will be immediately followed by the introduction of a villain to keep things messed up.

There are other ways to move the story along. Seeing how they make something work at this point would be interesting enough on its own. There doesn't have to be someone going "how dare a protagonist be happy".

You know... I dont think that this is necessarily that the two of them wont just ditch Maiko later.

Here's the thing. They now realize that the two of them have some form of control over Nene, just as she does with them. They are more wary of her antics, her actions, her manipulation tactics. They still have the rose-tinted glasses, but theres a crack in them.

The best thing to go against any manipulator is having people outside the manipulation.

Youta has someone outside that. Nene just needs one, too.

I suspect that Maiko will have to try MUCH harder to actually keep them with her.
