But how else do you oppose the status quo with such small margins. Appealing the publics sense of morality, people have already dismissed what they saw from the tapes and on the news. I can see why Tanaka (I think his name is lol) would feel like this is his only option. Especially after the brutality he's experienced and that the others fear might happen to them

To be fair, that would be far closer to getting them secured rights as people. Most politics if you think about it is proxy violence. We vote on stuff because fighting isn't worth it to either party even if we disagree. However, on stuff that isn't worth letting go over a lost vote or a beligerant opposition, we still fight with the idea "our violence will win or at least will make you reconsider not letting go of it."
In the face of an enemy that outright rejects your humanity (for economic profit as well), overwhelming violence for independence makes more sense because otherwise it's just asking for the status quo to maintain until they randomly decide to change themselves. They want to be human, the others want them to not be human, so really they're the ontological evil no action against isn't justified until you're consjdered human again. And stuff like Yugoslav wars makes it clear men are all still men regardless of capacity for violence and evil.

The ending dissapointed me on this part because it reveals things that undermine the points made. Still a cool story but they never properly address this point of contention seriously.
