I’ll say release one chapter with the rough raws. That way it won’t be three months of waiting for the ppl that are impatient. And it keeps snipers away. You could always re release it after getting the quality raws
Was discussing this with the CLRD. One of our options would be to release one or two chapters before the volume comes out and then switch to the volume raws... but then we're back in the same position waiting for volume 6 and so on.
We also discussed potentially doing a re-release but that means redoing the CLRD which is quite a bit of extra work to ask.
I’d say we can wait?
if it’ll mean a consistent release schedule with good quality
What it would probably mean is a batch of releases not long after the volume drops and then another long wait.
You're already doing a great job!
And the quality is already good!
I can see that you upscale the image when I zoom in. High quality is good, but sometimes the upscale takes the beauty of the art, so do it in moderation.
Other than that, I would rather you continue with what you have even with low-quality raws. I can wait, but I'd rather not…
For some of our series like
Tonari no Kuderella or
Soretomo Time Leap ni Suru, we exclusively use volume raws. We haven't caught up so there hasn't been any incentive to switch to magazine raws. Most of our series use the web raws published on comicwalker and the like, but the quality varies massively. Some series like
Miyu-chan wa Zutto Tomodachi don't get any pre-processing at all, meanwhile
Ryoushin no Shakkin requires an elaborate (and slow) network to get something decent (That series has the lowest resolution raws I've ever worked opn at 650x933px).
Some series scanlations I read/have read in the past have been released in batches following volume release, like
Risou no Himo Seikatsu and
Insomniacs After School, but given the very recent snipe attempt here on Akanabe, I'm reluctant to tempt fate.
A fair number of folks do seem content to wait for the volume chapters, but consensus seems to be that the upscaling we're doing on Akanabe is good enough for a series where the art isn't a major focus, and that waiting 2 to 3 months for the volume risks losing readers or being sniped. For now we're going to continue with the magazine raws and upscaling process. Personally, I would like to wait for better raws to put out the best product we can, but it's pretty demoralizing for staff to see their hard work basically get ignored because some other group put out AI slop a week before us and all the views/discussion went to the slop. Basically, if the image quality of the pages we're putting out isn't a problem, then I'm content to stick with the magazine raws and work towards catching up to the author.
