I knew from the start that Il was not just a 'cowardly king.' Mainly because Hak's faith in Il made me think that there's must be more in Il that we haven't seen yet.

After reading this chapter, I understand. Il is just a human being. He wasn't prepared to be a king, never thought that he's worthy of and didn't even want the throne. It resulted in him made poor decisions on domestic politics. But he had strong resolve to protect. All this time, Il focused on protecting Yona, and peace, knowing full well that he himself would not have a happy ending. He's willing to embrace death as long as his daughter, born from a woman he truly loved, can live safely until she become the next king gloriously. That's what made Hak trust Il so much. I recall Hak had mention this briefly in earliest chapter (forgot which, tho).

As for Soo-Won, I think there are only 2 choices left for him; either he'll grip his power on the throne even stronger, or surrender it willingly to Yona. But at this point, even I'm not sure Yona would want to be king. On the other side, Soo-Won have inherited the scarlet king disease (or whatever it's called) and would not have long time left.

Unless somehow Yona & bros could find the cure for this disease. With Yoon's knowledge, or the high priest's, or the blood of 4 dragons, or all of them.

Im somehow glad that King Il is not too fanatic about dragon legend. He really love his wife and daughter and want his daughter to be safe and had someone that wont leave her and would support her through hard time. He also really care for his brother and sister in law. Hes might be a coward but he love his family so much that its sad

I always had a feeling Il never expected to be king, since they said from the beginning everyone thought it would be Yuhon. Glad we got that flashback, and more of Il's perspective. He never created war, or did much as king because he was a placeholder, and mainly used his power to shelter yona. He just tried to delay what he already knew was coming. I guess he could not predict that the grief would be created again by Yona witnessing his death. But she overcame that and became stronger. This story finally coming full circle yall!

Ever since Hak showed us that one memory of why he respected king il so much, I've always thought that there was more to the latter than we know. I'm glad that Yona was able to get this last memory of her father as someone who wanted to protect her with all his being. He wasn't the best king, but he was the best father. Even though he knew it would hurt Yona that he would die without fighting back, he also knew Yona would be strong enough with Hak by her side, and I think that's amazing.

@Akiyukichan pretty sure they will go with
the cure thing it was
hinted way back
then when Yoon was reading medical books in the library and one of them mention about a legendary herb a cure all whatever and Yoon thought that it’s kinda weird cause he use it all the time and realize he might be the only one who knows where to find those herbs.

Forgot the chapter it’s there somewhere so high chance they’ll do that.

I do have a theory though
yellow dragon will go just as keikaku pretty sure the yellow dragon somehow made said medicine or related to it

anyway because after reading all this back story I realize he’s former lover could have the blood of the crimson king that’s why he was attracted to her and the fact she was secluding herself inside the forest (cause they were being hunted down By the royal family) and she died young due to an incurable diseases. The yellow dragon only really started to perform his duty as the dragon after his lover died so that’s probably when he start to discover and learn stuff like the current history and finding the location of the hidden village etc etc though still pretty offhand until Yona came.

Coincidence I THINK NOT i bet those herbs are found near her grave or something

@Mitsu13 That's a good question, and I've been asking it myself as well. Will Yona contract the illness, too, and create a new cursed lineage if she has children?

Yon-hi wrote in the memoir that her father had told her the illness was the gods' way of summoning the King back to their side as they loved him. So it would make sense that she also contracts it. In fact, this might be the next issue to be dealt with in this story. I doubt even Zeno has an answer to that. He may be a Dragon, but his direct link to the gods seems to be faint, since he only has occasional insights. The only one who might possibly have an answer is the current High Priest, Ik-soo.

Otherwise, her offspring should be fine with Hak as their father. Unlike Soo-won, he's quite healthy 😂

My bet: The current cursed lineage is so because they are related to the incarnation of Emperor Hiryu that was recalled. Which mean that Yona would have to be recalled by the heavens for her children to suffer the same fate, it is not off the table. The question is would the heaven recall the same soul again, repeating the whole process all over again with all the mess caused, especially now that the current incarnation Yona seems now more human (mortal) than divine compared to the previous incarnation.

I did not cry, but the chapter left me speechless for about three minutes. I was trying to process everything that has happened and wow, it all make sense.

This chapter even proves that Kusanagi is not just a great artist, but also a brilliant writer.

Even knowing that he wasn't fit to be a King and his death by Soowon's hand, he hold on to his position bravely hoping that there would be lesser casualties in this fight. This chapter truly shows how King Il is never a coward. I liked how the older generations somewhat cleared up their misunderstandings before they died, but can't help to wonder does Soowon knows about this?
