I also find the chapter a bit confusing, placement/build-up and also tone wise.
The entire last chapter we had Komichi and Erika with each other, being all lovey dovey and positive, maybe just a bit of romantic tension. Komichi was totally happy and optimistic.
Then this chapter starts with her looking a bit worried, who was totally happy just now, and that's enough for a whole flash back full of serious debate and conflicts?
It would have been less out of place, if last chapter had Komichi having some thoughts and doubts about this stage play matter. Then convert that into new determination and dedication for making this date a big success, "so that we can make the play succeed" or whatever.
That was what I saw and thought up, after reading both chapter 82 and 83 twice.
