I love stories about learning to love yourself. And I must say, I LOVED this story about not figuring out for yourself, but finding someone who will accept you as you are. It is so shojou. Girls should not accept to be categorized, and boys should decide for themselves who they want to be in a love relationship and what they want to bring to their love interest, how they want to treat the other.
The aim of the author is a bit too obvious at sometimes, but at the same time, I find it refreshing that the guy questions himself because he is in love (not really seen that in real life yet though haha sadly)
I’m glad they did not share the gender. The characters are nice that way. People, including me, will most certainly read Akira’s action differently just because they know they’re a girl or a male. And that’s what the character and the author want to avoid.
It proves the point: gender roles are in the culture. It is a way for other to pressure people into a role, sometimes out of character.
It will take us long to stand on our own and learn to de things because we like it and not because we are expected to.
