Is

It pedophilia if he doesn't even get into a romantic relationship until she's 18?
Man is finding out about the definition of grooming. It may not be a 100% match the definition, and grey doesn't seems to have any intention of doing the "grooming", and IF it does happens after she becomes 18, it would still be borderline grooming in my definition. It may not bother you, but it does bother me as it goes against my moral code and if it does happens i will leave this manga quietly no need for conflict.
You may criticize my moral code, but you can't change it and i have no intention of changing it.

Exactly the problem here. This is pretty much a "if it doesn't align with my views, it's gross and bad" thing.
Dude please shut the fuck up. Grooming is bad, period. Pedophilia is bad, period. Stop being a creep

Man folks seriously. Like more than half the posts for this chapter is people hung up on an anime/Manga that ended more than 10 years ago and worrying that the dude is going to hook up with the teen girl, or arguing for him to for whatever reason.

Like why not just talk about the new characters, one being a tsundere ex clearly still interested in him lol.?

They tend to change quite a bit of stuff from the WN to the LN to the manga, though.

Like in the Overlord WN, the female mage from the Nazarick exploration arc "lives" and IA eventually reunited with her little sisters. In the manga and, IIRC, the LN, she's killed and her little sisters are sold into slavery and die in a mine.
Novels that do drastic changes from WN to LN are in the minority though, specially if they are changes that are gonna affect the narrative/plot/world and/or are old as hell, but people always love to bring this up, you really went the extra mile with your example lmao, so whatever

Ages didn't get changed here from the WN Introduction to LN Appendix to Manga, they already gave enough info to not affect the narrative in this chapter with them saying Gray was dating someone (Emilia) 13 years ago, otherwise making them way younger would affect everything with it, manga been going the same as sources so far

Lots of western takes in this comment section.

Just an FYI, there's a large difference between this and Usagi Drop.

Usagi Drop: 30 year old Daikichi becomes the guardian of his 6 year old aunt, raises her, and eventually gets into a relationship with her.

This manga: Grey (mid 20s?) takes in a bunch of orphans, including 13 year old Ariamel. As of yet, there's no romance between them.

There's also a large difference in settings between the two manga. One is set in more or less modern day Japan while the other is set in a medieval fantasy world.
Western takes indeed. I never forgot 10 years ago reading an interview on NatGeo about an african girl who married young. The white female journalist couldnt answer when the african girl asked back whether the journalist could guarantee that the african girl's v-card will be protected until she's older (referring to how unsafe africa was). Just because the westerners think they have it figured out in the context of their own living condition, doesnt mean the rest of the world has solved that problem too.

Discouraging conversations regarding what's perceived as pedophilia would just make us commit the same mistakes over and over.

I will forever defend Usagi Drop. If you mean to say pedo, then dont use Usagi as a shorthand. Imo Usagi was written well enough to make some sense when you consider things from the chara's pov, not just for shock value.

Usogi Drop had such a dogshit ending that people to this day still resent it. And it's perfectly reasonable to recoil at the sight of yet another promising manga to end up with the same dogshit plot as Usogi Drop.

The reason people are really "hung up" on this is the fact that the story is going so well but it could go the wrong way (ie, tongue in cheek grooming).

However, I agree. The story is going really well (both in manga and novel) so it's kinda pointless for people to argue abt things that haven't happened.

You have no idea what actual grooming is.

You're like those guys that shout "NAZI!!" when someone has a slightly conservative opinion.

I get that, I really do. But we also have had titles like, after having my adventuring license revoked, blah blah blah adorable daughter, dude never hooked up with the kid. Likewise for daughter leaving the nest something or another S rank, likewise Yotsubato.

I just mean there are plenty that have the same premises, but never went the dad character marrying the daughter character. So I just found it a bit goofy that people are so panicked over what could be but really there don't seem to be signs of it. Apologies if I seem overly dismissive.

Yes, and? Is she not allowed to feel jealousy and insecurity? Is she expected to act like a pure innocent cherub until she turns 18 and magically transforms into an adult like a Pokémon evolution? Also, I'm not here for Usagi Drop/UchiMusume. I'm here for diabetes.

They probably live in reddit.
There just was a thread on the front page where people there thought it was revolting that a 26 year old guy dated a 18 year old girl, and they said that it was more or less pedophilia.
I shit you not.
You probably live in the Vatican then cause a 7 yr age gap is huge when you're that young

Nina is just the most precious bean out there. It's so going to be heart breaking if she ever has a rebellious phase.

And Stella being shy is just so cute

Isn't it technically still legal to marry at 13 in japane under very specific circumstances although legal changes have pushed it higher in most districts?
Traditional marriage in a lot of countries girls would be married off shortly after they started puberty to become wives and mothers. Moral judgement aside what makes you think biology is beatable?

From the dialogue it implies Grery and the ex were dating 13 or 14 years ago it's actually strange that she isn't already married off.
It's actually biologically really unhealthy for girls to have kids that young. And the reason we now have laws to protect kids from being married off as kids, is that it's mentally unhealthy too. It's not some arbitrary modern moral judgement - it's actual harm.

Assuming Gray's about 28, he would've been 14 or 15 when he was in that party. And kids that age can absolutely date safely, without that implying a 13 y/o should be getting married. Not to mention "married off", like she's property to be sold.

Honestly impressive how you managed to completely miss my point.
