I also think she's a sociopath, and doesn't actually understand right from wrong, so she doesn't really understand what will or won't turn her daughter against her.

That's usually the case with regression stories like this. Protagonists don't usually "understand" what they did wrong so they just do the opposite instead. This one however is little too on the nose and MC could use a little more "humanization" so to speak. She is acting like a robot.
