Following the WN, we gonna go back a bit in time when Ark went to rescue the other group.
Christina (The Noble girl who wanted to be Ark friend) and one of Ark follower (a girl with beast like ability) went ahead to fight off the horde in order to cover the escape of their group.

During their fight, some of the Saint's lackeys attacked Christina and Ark's follower and they were defeated. They were about to get killed when Saint's lackey instead decides to have fun with the two girls first but was stopped in time by Ark. Ark absorb all the Saint's lackeys body into his dark hole for later use.

With the plan failed, the summoner under the church decides to flee but was captured by Ark. Ark also decides to use the horde to strike against the Saint's camp and also dispose all of her dead lackeys there. By the end of the training camp, Saint's group suffered the most death (only Saint and her Guard was alive).

I think that panel is meant to be a flashback to when Ark left to check the flare 4 chapters ago. Its hard to say for sure though because if it is the text was either translated differently in the flashback panel or it was paraphrased and repositioned to save space by the mangaka. But I'm reasonably sure thats a flash back to page 38 of chapter 18
