I admire Nerissa's passion, but if people are viewing garbage proofreading as "superior" they probably weren't native English speakers to begin with. Imagine being new to English and trying to judge what decent English looks like. You're underestimating mob mentality if you don't think that's dangerous.

What ESLs fail to realize is that the longer they continue propping up bad TLs, the more MTL works will continue to appear and worsen translation for all.

It's almost like you're pre-sniping, because you're encouraging bad works. Nerissa is a good cleaner and typesetter, but there is room for improvement. And as long as there is room for improvement there is room for competition. This isn't a good enough scan for people to be getting butthurt.


GREAT attitude on Nerissa's part though. A lot of scanlators could learn from them. I agree with one thing, a collaboration would be nice.

As I said I'm willing to step down if asked. I have nothing against it, I know my scanlation is far from perfect but despite that in doing my best to improve day by day as I scanlate chapters 1 by 1. And as I said readers deserves much better quality, all I have is speed but lacking on quality thus I named my scanlation with the label of barely competent cuz I know my flaws and I'm doing my best to overcome them.

And one of the high points was their willingness to take advice and improve. So please take that wine snob attitude and shove it in the bung of the used vinegar castes where it belongs.

And remember it is a FREE scan, not paid one. If it is paid one, sure you CAN have an opinion about the TL. But i'm not sure you pay anything to former TL.

Falsifying my opinion would be the opposite of kindness actually. If you have to withhold criticism to be kind to someone then they will never grow. True kindness is letting someone know where they went wrong so they can get better. Sounds like you're mistaking kindness with coddling.

The last time I checked this discussion thread, it had around 4-5 comments.
Saying that there was no need to pick up this series.
And that I would be "usurping" asphyxiav2's role as translator of this manga.

So at that time I already decided not to continue with translations of this title.
I do my translations mainly during downtime at work (I work wfh), making my uploads erratic and irregular.
Which would make collaboration with asphyxiav2 hard to organize (as suggested by some commenters).

But I noticed today that there were already dozens of comments and heated arguments.

So I decided to clarify some points:

I am very new to this scanlation thing in general.
I didn't know that there were "claimed" titles among translators.
And that it was unethical to translate "someone else's manga".
Before deciding to start scanlation hobby and registering on this website,
I used to read some manga here as a "lurker", never even delving into the forums.
And as a lurker, I would jump in between different translations, whenever I felt a particular translation was not making much sense (to me personally).
So I thought that having several variations of translation was actually pretty convenient for a reader. As every reader will have their own preference in translations. Some may like more direct, some may like more "adapted" translation.

Which comes to next point, I never jabbed at asphyxiav2's translation, simply because
I never read this manga past chapter 1, which was uploaded by someone else (not asphyxiav2).
I am not a professional translator. I am not even native speaker of neither English nor Japanese. I picked up scanlation for the sole purpose of practicing both of these languages, since foreign language can be easily forgotten due to lack of practice. Which I know from my own personal experience, as I used to speak good enough German, but have forgotten almost everything after leaving Germany 10-ish years ago. (I studied there at a uni)

But even I noticed that chapter 1 was too incoherent. So I decided to check out the raw version, where I noticed that translation was most likely plain MTL.
That's why I decided to upload my own version of chapter 1 and maybe pick it up if there was enough demand. (not realizing I was going to "usurp" asphyxiav2's role as translator of this manga)

Let me say this again, I don't claim to be a better translator than anyone else.
But I know for sure, that my translation will be better than plain MTL.
I never read asphyxiav2' translation and didn't claim my translation was better than theirs.
I never intended to "usurp" asphyxiav2's role as a translator of this manga.

I don't want to create any unnecessary negativity and drama.

As it's said, "the people have spoken", there is no need for another version of scanlation.

Let us stop at this and not degrade into personal insults.

It's fine. Some people in mangadex community are pretty uptight when it comes to this stuff. You can just ignore it though, they are a loud minority.

Don't worry, the only people throwing out insults are people upset at me for calling Nerissa's cleaning and typesetting good but their translation garbage.

Personally I think you should collab with them if you can. If you're worried about what the crowd thinks, at the end of the day most ppl just want speed.

NGL, you really did nothing wrong. In fact I would encourage you to continue to find old, low quality chapters to cut your teeth on and practice your translation skills.

Just add a bit of text to your title/signature pages what your intentions are and few will complain. Even better if the series your practicing on hasn't been updated in more then half a year or more. There are many to choose from.
