The logic of this nation really threw me for a loop. A mage in the past lost control and hurt people, so all mages must be incompetent and sealed...

I can only see horrible consequences resulting from such a law. Not just discrimination, but also anger of persecution and overall nationwide loss of magical knowledge and control.

Sure regulations and training are needed, but just locking the ignorant in there own bodies doesn't resolve anything.
Don't count on any culture or legal system being rational.

Chance is, there insisgators involved directly or indirectly, purposely or incidentally.

if it mere coincidence,
either the havoc is really bad that causes great panic in the kingdom, forcing them to make a such a laws. or the news and rumors got exaggeration soo far that cause same result as masses people can't be taken lightly.

while if it on purpose,
either the nobles and kingdom is sucks they making bad decisions out of whimp because they are incompetent. or some people during that time want to remove magic influence either in power or even in the struggle for the throne between the heirs

Fantasy authors make all sorts of compromises for the sake of a plot device. This example just felt hamfistedly bolted on as a lark. Kingdom wide forced sealing of mages just seems like it would either lead to a rebellion, or encourage one of their less friendly neighbors to take advantage of their silliness and aquire the nation on the cheap.

Maitake Maitake kurukuru~
No, brain stahp.

So what are the odds that MC is super strong in dark or light element, which will become convenient considering the cursed site they are at.
Skeletons? I hope it will be skeletons.
Extremely unlikely considering he's already tried casting light and dark magic and couldn't do it.

yes. but at the same time, it also can be use to hint that mage can be considered rare despite their numbers in world.
we can also count about magic development not that high and Variety depending on countries though cannot be considered sole forces for war. if the author managed to show magic has critical disadvantage at war that can but hard to be exploited then it gonna be a well written story (if the author can pull it, thou)

Would agree that mages are rare and magical research is underdeveloped, if there wasn't an entire renowned academy dedicated to magecraft in the neighboring kingdom. And as it will be the main stage on which the otome game was played, I doubt there will only be a handful of students.

Even if their country lacked the genetics to produce many mages, the number of individuals young and old that would require a mana seal should still be staggering.

technically only one country has that.

so it make sense if the Knowledge being Monopolyzed for power or keeping the peace as purpose

it's too protect the mages too bc the public needs reassurance that theyre harmless bc if not, well then... points to historical witch hunts

I'm planning on changing it to Gianluca next chapter
Good call. If he gets mentioned next chapter again, might as well adapt Fakka Fokka to smth like Facca Focca to make it sound more fantasy-ish since you're settling on italian names for the current setting
