In case anyone wonders, the glasses are not an anachronism. The modern form our boy Willem uses here - temples holding them in place over the ears - was invented somewhere in the early 18th century, before 1727 according to Wikipedia. Granted, this is a fantasy faux-Europe setting, but but technology level roughly matches up, except maybe the distinct lack of muskets (then again we haven't seen much anything about weaponry).
