Going after somebody's family is a sure-fire way to create a dedicated, uncompromising, pityless and implacable enemy; one who almost certainly will seek to take your life from you in some way.

Threatening the first person with whom they have loved, and been loved in return?

I mean, that's a bad plan; not tough, not smart, certainly not business-savvy.
Making a physical threat on a royal family member and his intended is a really great way to ensure defeat in detail.
