I'm glad this is over. The little brother arc annoyed me to no end.

They've had this type of character in other villainess manga, but I feel like this is one of the first to actually go "no you moron, you can't marry that bitch." And explain it too.

Also, the little brother finally understood, the saintess can't be trained/tamed, except we didn't punish him enough for it. Especially after he slanders his sister for saying she did a poor job teaching the saintess.

I wish there was a bit more from the family side when they realize the daughter was a genius. Felt tacked on at the end.

It's nuts how in essentially the same thought process he
A) recognizes how much the Aini fails to understand important noble social cues
B) doesn't remember/selectively forgets those
same social cues despite he himself explaining it to her
C) blames his sister for failing to teach her, not realizing his rose tinted glasses prevent him from seeing that she's just that bad of a student.

Also wild that they just go out and say that the saintess is kinda just there to make babies (though honestly I'm not sure if even Aini understands that).

Excited to see the princes perspective soon.

To the bit about Bernadetta's genius being recognized by her family--

It's not fully come up yet, because she hasn't officially claimed the right to take over as head of her House. But she did declare her intentions during the string of chapters focused on her story, when Seraphina and the foreign prince together boosted her self-worth & confidence enough to stand and take what's hers. And her abilities were informally recognized by her father at that time, though it's not concluded yet and we'll have to rejoin her story to see what happens.

I do think this was somewhat necessary, because it's another facet of Bernadetta's life within her House and it adds another layer to what she's had to put up with, but from outside her personal perspective. We see that she was correct all along--Aini is A Problem, but nearly everyone around her is simply charmed (Magic Charm'd?) by her beauty and demeanor and personality.
The Brother here gives us a perspective akin to *Orva's on how Aini's fucking things up for people, while also further fleshing out Bernadetta's specific relationship with both the Saintess Apprentice and her own family. She's redeemed as the Brother realizes that she was always a genius, and that he has crippled his chances of inheriting his House due to his own negligence and complacency.

There's a chance he turns the corner and comes out a slightly better person. We saw in his early childhood that he was effectively poisoned by his mother, who seeks more power and control within that House. He's been conditioned and manipulated, but isn't wholly lost; he can see here that he's been an idiot, and blind to what's really going on around him, and has resolved to try and make up for his failings in a constructive manner.

So I think he'll be replaced by his sister, and won't get what he thought he was entitled to. But he'll probably come out okay-ish, and not be subjected to "Punishment Unending" as Bernadetta takes over. He's still her brother, after all, and she's one to use Useful Things, of which he could end up being one, now that he's gotten the rose-tinted glasses off and been made aware as to what's really going on.

You are correct - he's an annoying character, and I think we as readers are meant to dislike him, but to feel some sympathy for how he's gotten to where he has. The fact he actually acknowledged that he's fucked up, means he has potential to get back on the right path. Hopefully with some chastisement and not blanket forgiveness, but allowed the opportunity to work hard and gain some measure of respect again.

-experiences firsthand how Aini straight-up doesn't listen to any instruction at all regarding etiquette
-sill blames it on his sister's teaching instead of the fact that Aini is completely unwilling to learn

Dork-ass loser

On an unrelated note, I really don't understand people who complain about seeing the perspective of characters like this. Whenever there's a chapter dedicated to, like, explaining the plans of the villains or showing what they're up to, there are always droves of people complaining that the chapter was "wasted" like... no? Such scenes are important for enhancing the depth of the story. I like this format of showing the perspective of everyone involved in the incident, showing their motivations and that not all of them are one-note evil idiots. Having someone like Sauri, capable of personal growth, only enhances the fact that Orva is a moron by contrast.

you make good points all around, but I do like the last line.
Orva is a real dumbdumb and I should go back and read that portion again just to revel in how he gets wrecked.

I hope his particular story's not over and that we see more of him having to deal with / own up to his failings.

People rightfully hating on the little brother and focusing on his perspective, but i’m much more dreading Orva’s perspective. Legit might just skip over those chapters if it gets to that, because there’s no redemption for that brainless trog

kinda glad we got the "he knew and didn't want to see her sister actual abilities", and we also got the reason why he never got an actual chance to with Aini, it's more like the moment his possible romance got crush and by himself he was trying to drown his puppy love that he realized her sister abilties, sadly it was too late and Bernadette awoke to his own life route.
Sadly we didn't get the chance to see the mother gets curbstomped by Bernardette new attitude, specially since she already confronted her dad, so we missed the chance to make it more obvious that he got poisoned by her mom to look down on her sister, we got the complacency on why he wasn't as good as her.

well with this route outta the way, we finally get the prince and prolly getting near to the end, hopefully we get the princess too to share her actual POV in detail, like how she turned into a gigachad and someone so young with the ability to be the mother of the nation, not rule per se, as she clearly acknowledges the prince for his ability too.

Well I’m glad this particular arc of doneso. Granted I still don’t like Sauri. But most of his foolishness and supremacy can be traced back to his mother, hating on Bernadette for being the daughter of ‘the woman who got in the way’ despite it possibly being the case both Bernadette’s parents had no say in the matter and whereas one tried to make the best of it even if her husband kept a mistress, while the other once his first wife was gone, effectively neglected his daughter in favor of his illegitimate son and push her brilliance down with no regards to her feelings or potential.

Still don’t like Sauri or the step wench and dad. But it’s more of a neutral dislike that leans towards indifference or mild contempt for Sauri’s case and utter disdain for the dad & step wench.

If there’s anyone I still strongly hate of the main cast, it probably be orva.

Thanks a lot for the chapter!

And We're finally getting to the prince's pov!
I hope we'll get to see things about him and Seraphina since their childhood!

well - we saw that it was Sauri's mother that had a major hand in him turning out this way in the previous chapter's flashback scenes to when Sauri was a child. That was also when he first noticed that something was up with his older sister in an intellectual sense, but he was far too young to really parse the implications.
That said - we've not had either their mother or their father as a focus of the story yet, so there's no reason to believe that won't happen eventually. Especially as said confrontation would tie into Bernadetta's own narrative arc, wherein she has to fully prove that she can helm their House, convince her father of that fact, and take the position over Sauri himself. Sauri's mother will undoubtedly get involved at that point--likely with some form of behind-the-scenes manipulation to screw Bernadetta over, now that her actual value and potential makes it clear she's a better choice than Sauri to helm their House.

We're jumping to the Prince now, because he's the last "central character" directly tied to both Aini and Seraphina that we have. From there, the overall narrative of events after the "Big Incident" will start to pick back up, and we'll see the aftermath, and each character's own stories as they vie for and obtain their respective goals.

Looking forward to the prince’s POV. He called Aini the Saint a river weasel 😂

By the looks of it, Seraphina has 2 strong friends and confidantes/aides in Bernadette and Sandra. Meanwhile Prince has useless Orva and maybe 1/4 of a helpful person in Sauri, assuming Sauri gets his shit together and learns from his mistakes.
