YesssssI'd go even further: I don't think he ever fully realized she was smart. The time Bernadetta tried to explain a book to him and the time he saw her talking to their dad were some of the first times he'd seen or interacted with Bernadetta ever/before she was suppressed and both times he was too young to even get that she was saying smart things.
So yeah he probably thinks she's always been mediocre and only knew more than him initially because she's older than him.
That part made me think it was sort of a shame that the saint and stepbrother have been characterized as solidly unlikable.
Like you don't get to fully explore Bernadetta being bad at teaching because she's up against people with none redeeming qualities.
Such a good point on how Sauri probably thinks she only knew more due to age!! It makes sense, her grades are terrible and they haven't spoken since very young
Tbh I'm kinda hoping the brother gets redeemed🤞 Sauri hasn't really shown many good qualities so far, but I think he can grow.
Many of the characters weren't likeable in the first few chapters funnily enough. Bernadetta, from Sandra's initial POV, was a weak passive background character. And how far she came in just a few chapters!
I wonder if we'll get more of the other guys' POVs. Orva doesn't seem like he has many thoughts at all, and the Prince seems almost Too perfect - but Sauri's bits so far had added a lot of depth to the story.
Like there were hints previously, but from Sauri's POV it becomes crystal clear that Bernadetta is a terrible teacher - like so many brilliant never-had-to-struggle people are. The brother interpreting her way of overwhelming her student with information as bullying isn't that far fetched.
It's sad that that point seems to get buried under "Sauri sucks".
