i geniuenly had such a fun time learning more about japanese culture in this chapter. i feel like i get to learn with alice, as someone who isn't japanese / never grew up in japan, i feel like i get to learn from inuboshi's lessons / stories as well

Yep, folklore and "small people" history will teach you a lot about a country's culture and history. It's important to complement the "great people & events" way of narrating history!

I appreciate the drive-by of how Western culture is worse than Eastern culture. Sure they only listed two things, and there's many things about western culture that are good. But the two they listed (Individualism, Alienation from Nature) are literally destroying the planet, so...

"my culture is special because we like to eat and have big families" I get it's realistic to have the characters act like this, but everywhere has its forms of natural disasters, and some parts of Japanese culture can be read as very individualistic to outsiders
