Why is it "well-written", because it's deceptive? Or is it just because it's a guy pretending to be a girl? It could have been a girl with the same abused past, and you wouldn't have called it particularly well-written.

By the way, I think you guys are misunderstanding something important. It could be argued that his backstory is basically that he was abused so much that he convinced himself he is a woman. Doesn't this run contrary to the supposed "science", which claims that "trans" people are inherently that way regardless of upbringing? One could easily read this as implying he wouldn't be pretending to be a woman if his dad didn't abuse him. He couldn't live up to his dad's harsh masculine standards, so pretending to be a woman is his coping mechanism.
