Some interesting developments this chapter. Now that its been shown that the King of Diamonds is a master manipulator, it makes me question whether the King of Clubs is actually headed for Tokyo or if he's even alive. King Diamonds could have just killed King Clubs and spray painted the Tokyo message himself. After showing the group the fake message and implanting in their heads the importance of gathering all the cards, he essentially ensures that everyone "participates" in his little psychological experiment. I always felt that something was subtly off about him from the moment he was introduced. He's always had that crazed expression. Before it was revealed he was a researcher, I figured he was from some fanatical religion or was a cult leader.
Revealing that King Spades is a cop explains his little spiel about not giving into lawlessness in one of the earlier chapters. Interestingly enough, not more than a few hours after giving that spiel, he goes and kills two people that he just met and frames one of them for the other's death. Pretty cold and calculated. Though those two guys did show to be the most troublesome and threatening of the group (as far as first impressions went), so I'm not sure if King Spades has it in him to kill Alice and Queen of Clubs if he finds them. He possibly relates them to his daughter and can't find it in him to murder them in cold blood. May still possibly be a potential ally to our heroine.
I also have a feeling the gloomy timid sister is might be more than she lets on. Her submissiveness to her younger sister could possibly be due to traumatic or psychological issues. A few chapters back, when the group was gathering supplies at a convenience store, most of the characters were looking for food and cooking supplies while there was a shot of Gloomy brandishing a big ass combat/hunting knife. She states that the sisters' specialty is hunting. Who knows what that actually entails. Maybe they're hunting enthusiasts and hunt during deer/tanuki season. Maybe they're bounty hunters adept at tracking humans. Maybe they've got some military experience and have done multiple tours. Who knows, only future chapters will tell. Her sister is definitely crazy though.
Last but not least, there's the old guy. I figured he wasn't going to be killed off at least until it was revealed that he wasn't a "gentleman," though how he becomes a monster capable of killing people, I don't know. He's old, he's frail, and apparently he can't go one day without yankin it. This one will be interesting to see. He's also been the conduit for fan service so far... so maybe he has a bit of plot (fanservice) armor...
After seeing most of the characters degenerate and showing off their true colors in these few chapters, my last crackpot theory is that the people chosen to participate in this game are the most fucked up people from society. The only ones left that are shown to be normal are Alice, Alice's friend, family man who left the group early (king of hearts), and Gloomy. Though Gloomy might be debatable as she doesn't seem too bothered about hunting down and killing two high school girls. If the theory holds true, I'm curious to see the backstories of the remaining "normal" characters.
