Don't read it, then. The author is practically telling you that he doesn't intend for an actual romantic relationship.
I understand that is what the author wants, but I think the mistake here is that it was tagged in mangadex as yuri and that may drive people to pick this up thinking that is what it is, hell I picked it up for that reason but I'm staying around because it's interesting. If this manga isn't officially a yuri, nor is it considered as such by the author, why the hell is it tagged Girls Love in mangadex?

As I've mentioned earlier, it is advertised as yuri in Japan, so it is "officially" a yuri. With that said, I think I'm about one more comment like this away from removing the GL tag from Mangadex. I would like to maintain parity with how the manga is officially advertised, but you (and others) are correct that the tag probably sets the wrong expectations for a lot of readers.

(After some more thought since last time this was discussed, I wonder if the label was applied by the publisher as a sort of content warning about the lesbian sex scenes?)

I mean if there are lesbian sex scenes in the future, I would consider it to be yuri lol, but I do find it weird that it's advertised as yuri but the author itself doesn't seem to consider it as such...

By sex scenes I mean what's already appeared, them bathing together in a very sexually suggestive way.

But yeah the label appears to have been attached by the publisher without any input from the author. So either they judged the author's plans for the story to be yuri-aligned (this is very possible even without romance, as yuri in Japan includes close platonic relationships between women), they're using it as a marketing tactic, or they thought the depictions of two girls rubbing on each other would offend "normal" readers.
