Otherwise, it can get quite confusing if you've followed a manga to check out later, but then it gets lost in your sea of previous follows.

Basically, something like the MangaUpdates list feature would be great, where you can make your own specific lists like 'shounen manga' or 'shoujo manga' or 'needs to be translated' or 'trap manga'

I'm not sure how exactly this would get implemented, but I am a fan of GitHub issue tags. The Issue Tracker has a chronologically sorted list with all of the issues (in our case, an alphabetical list of all follows) and on the side is a list of customizable tags that you can attach to each issue. This would allow you to place multiple tags on a single manga to sort them into multiple lists. It's simple and intuitive for users to use and allows people as much or as little complexity in their organization as they deem necessary. Additionally, sorting options between alphabetical, community rating, and personal rating might be handy too.

On top of that, I think it would be really handy for tags to have a 'public' option so that, for instance, I could publicly share a list of my favourite mangos on my profile. I think this would help with discoverability, similar to Steam's Curators. This website already has many, many thousands of titles and even some genres are excessively populated so power users / curators would definitely be a welcome asset to the community.
