Did you read the story? the hook is that the one who was drunk was the one taking initiative, the one who wasn't was just trying to give them a place to sleep it off.

Huh... I'm not sure if the lead even knows she's gay, they haven't really clarified that. It does seem as if she only flirts with women when drunk, but I'm not sure if they aren't talking about it because it's a given that she understands about herself, or something she hasn't interrogated about herself.

I am not defending rape culture, I am pointing out that this story's relationship to rape culture is a lot muddier than a lot of other stories. Believe me when I say that I am no fan to rape culture, but you're not exactly winning any friends with this frankly obnoxious rhetoric.

If someone is like, hey this is rapey, and you're like "well technically...". You are taking the time and putting in the energy to defend rape culture. You have clearly placed yourself in your position. I'm not going to try to "convince" you.

Every time I'm like, hey this thing is racist/sexist/ablist/rapey some flavor of privileged knob jumps out to defend it. Today that's you, and your butt is hurt cause I'm not nice about.

If you're not a fan of rape culture, be an ally instead of an impediment.

I am a leftist, a collectivist, I believe in disassembling systems of capital and oppression, of bigotry and exploitation, and yet... you are just an exhausting individual, getting this up in arms about a queer longstrip because it has a loose connection to a widespread problematic theme, of which this is far from the worst offender.

Rape culture is strongly tied to heteronormativity and patriarchy, where the individual in the cis straight male position exerts Control. As such a queer story already has a more complicated relationship to that, to say nothing for the subversion of the Femme (and drunk individual) being the one to have all of the Power in that situation, being a very aggressive top.

The superficial read of events is "one person took a drunk person to a hotel and sex happened" which is bad, but that does leave out key details from the version of events that actually did happen, while it still relates to rape culture, I will reiterate that the Drunk character was the one who had the control, the power, took initiative.

The problems with rape culture are many, but Power and Control are a keystone in them, and this story subverts those, with the non-drunk party explicitly stating that they had no intention of bedding a drunk person, before said drunk person took control over the situation.

Now, we could have a discussion about that perpetuating potentially dangerous narratives, sure, of allowing people to pretend that would happen IRL, but as omniscient observers, we can see the truth of matters in this instance.
