-_- getting people drunk and taking them to motels is rape. Passed out people can't consent.

What the fuck Korea?
Did you read the story? the hook is that the one who was drunk was the one taking initiative, the one who wasn't was just trying to give them a place to sleep it off.

Huh... I'm not sure if the lead even knows she's gay, they haven't really clarified that. It does seem as if she only flirts with women when drunk, but I'm not sure if they aren't talking about it because it's a given that she understands about herself, or something she hasn't interrogated about herself.

I am not defending rape culture, I am pointing out that this story's relationship to rape culture is a lot muddier than a lot of other stories. Believe me when I say that I am no fan to rape culture, but you're not exactly winning any friends with this frankly obnoxious rhetoric.

If someone is like, hey this is rapey, and you're like "well technically...". You are taking the time and putting in the energy to defend rape culture. You have clearly placed yourself in your position. I'm not going to try to "convince" you.

Every time I'm like, hey this thing is racist/sexist/ablist/rapey some flavor of privileged knob jumps out to defend it. Today that's you, and your butt is hurt cause I'm not nice about.

If you're not a fan of rape culture, be an ally instead of an impediment.

I am a leftist, a collectivist, I believe in disassembling systems of capital and oppression, of bigotry and exploitation, and yet... you are just an exhausting individual, getting this up in arms about a queer longstrip because it has a loose connection to a widespread problematic theme, of which this is far from the worst offender.

Rape culture is strongly tied to heteronormativity and patriarchy, where the individual in the cis straight male position exerts Control. As such a queer story already has a more complicated relationship to that, to say nothing for the subversion of the Femme (and drunk individual) being the one to have all of the Power in that situation, being a very aggressive top.

The superficial read of events is "one person took a drunk person to a hotel and sex happened" which is bad, but that does leave out key details from the version of events that actually did happen, while it still relates to rape culture, I will reiterate that the Drunk character was the one who had the control, the power, took initiative.

The problems with rape culture are many, but Power and Control are a keystone in them, and this story subverts those, with the non-drunk party explicitly stating that they had no intention of bedding a drunk person, before said drunk person took control over the situation.

Now, we could have a discussion about that perpetuating potentially dangerous narratives, sure, of allowing people to pretend that would happen IRL, but as omniscient observers, we can see the truth of matters in this instance.

Absolutely classic "leftist" defense of rape culture. You know all the words, but you don't actually understand what they mean with your body. It's just a logical story for you. No matter what I say you are just going to entrench deeper into what is essentially internalized misogyny and patriarchy.

Okay... I want to give you the benefit of the doubt here, but as leftists, we currently have some bigger fish to fry than a queer asian comic series having some problematic takes on consent, if you hadn't noticed, fascism has fully taken over america, if you are seriously this passionate about justice and autonomy for women, I think you should have more important things to worry about right now.

Hell, the fact that you took A Year to respond to this, going from Before trump's second term to after... do you seriously not have more immediately pressing matters?

What a bullshit cop out of actually challenging your internal beliefs. You engaging in reflection is not to the determent of ANY greater cause. To the contrary, sexism is one of the big reasons we are in this situation. So if you care even an ounce about any of this bullshit, show up to the fight personally. Do the work, and then you won't actively be an impediment.

And I'm fucking disabled. I show up when I can, and I show up with everything I got. Your opinion of my capacity is ABLEISM.

DO THE WORK. Or shut the hell up.

I didn't say shit about your disability, I didn't know shit about it. And now that I do? Yeah, I am not able to level any criticisms over your level of activism involvement, I don't know your life, your level of capacity, your proximity to opportunities to help... but that's the rub, if I didn't know any of that, there's no way in hell I could have been knowingly ablest... which makes your accusation of such a little pre-emptive, I don't want to speculate that it is disingenuous, so I will simply gently suggest you might be projecting prior unpleasant experiences onto this interaction because you clearly already do not like me.

More to the point, you have made a series of assumptions about my own level of activism involvement (and able-bodied status for that matter) that are similarly based in ignorance. You don't know shit about how involved in the community I am or am not, and you have not given me any particular incentive to share personal details about my life at this point.

Now, as to the "cop out of challenging internal beliefs" I truly do question the prioritization at play. Are you attacking a specific queer story that repeats extremely common problematic tropes that have far worse examples out there (especially in heterosexual media which interacts with the systems of patriarchy in a much more direct way) because you are calling out allll of those other examples with equal passion? If so, I commend your dedication to launching tirades on many, MANY pieces of media, and am curious as to how you find the hours in the day. Or... did you just so happen to encounter a queer story and submit it to additional levels of criticism that you would not necessarily elsewhere? Systemic problems require different solutions to actually address than complaining about specific manifestations in media.

Again, I cannot emphasize enough that the pro-forced birth fascist takeover of America is actively in the Police State stage, I don't know if you live in America, but given you are discussing your problems with this series in English, on the English translation of the series, on a site with a strong English-speaking reader-base, and your level of fluency with the English language, I am presuming you at least hail from a nation with English as a primary spoken language, which means that the right-wing parties near you are either directly or indirectly following Trump's lead. And if you ARE in fact living in America? Yes you do have much more important priorities, like getting together the means to get the fuck out or get yourself hidden, fascism does have a habit of murdering those with disabilities.

Lastly, I am going out of my way to interpret your statements as having been said in good-faith... but I am not a fool, certain things you have said read oddly to me, flags rather scarlet in their shade if you catch my meaning, if you are in fact being disingenious, attempting to role-play a leftist to sow division, whatever your reasons for doing so, I will dissasemble you. If that is not your intent? Perhaps we take a breath and reconsider how we're approaching this discussion.
