Gonna be honest, I've not seen a manga with such an overwhelming amount of speech bubbles and generally as much text, and I find it super off-putting and exhausting to read...

This has the breath of really old anime, in that -- it has a really strong pilot episode, the premise seems cool and the world building feels genuine and well thought-of -- and then, never-ending school arc that episodically centers on a different character here and there, i.e: FILLERS. This story currently runs on bloody fillers.

What I wanted from this "school arc", was for Almark to expand his understanding of societal hierarchies, how cities run, how magic is used to elevate society and make it run, etc...Like how we got a taste of how the North runs, and the philosophy one needs to adapt in order to survive there (albeit we still know jackshit about the north to a disappointing degree).
That WAS the whole point of Almark going to the academy, right? He took on himself the role of solving the North Issue, implied by developing it.

Instead, every episode shows us a snippet of how Almark and Friend solved their respective mystery, this time around! meh.
That being said, I still think this story is worth following, maybe it'll flip around when the filler will end.

Couldn't say it any better myself. The fight part actually was a bit interesting and I thought it would lead to some new revelations about things, but then it's back to school bullshit. I am way too old to care about school slice of life bullshit anymore. A school arc in a series should be the foundations of an area that the mc then branches out from and does things that are not school related but finds people their age.
