She does not know him IRL (or her at all, at this point) but she has had an enormous crush on him for several years, as he was the first even slightly older person to take her seriously as a person, first looking after her when she entered the game and then even moreso as an equal once she gained experience. She avoided confessing to him all this time because she was afraid being just two years younger (and, especially, a middle-schooler) would lead him to not take her feelings seriously. Her hope was that his charms would stay hidden long enough for her to get to high school where she'd finally shoot her shot. Her negative reaction to the batsu game came in part from her genuine concern he would be hurt, but also in no small part from her panic that she'd be left behind for good.

She develops an in-game chat conversation with FL after she is introduced to the guild, a conversation which eventually spills into voice calls between the two. Over the course of these talks, Peach-san tells Nanami everything, partly as an apology and partly as catharsis.

If there's one thing that's consistent with this series so far, it's that Youshin forgets to say and do a lot of things.

But the MC doesn't know that. If you hear someon is going to ask you out as a punishment, it might take a lot for you to start thinking they really like you.

iirc she's Nanami's sister. It was implied in a previous chapter.

Stereotypically, most men tend towards direct, factual communication. Communication provides an answer, fact, or achieves some goal. Tact and/or the recipient's feelings are secondary to ensuring the message was delivered precisely.
Women tends towards indirect communication: the social connection between conversation participants is more important than the data or the message.

So, to put on my "Guy" hat, "I love you" is honest, accurate, and to the point. Success!
