At this point I'm not sure the translation is "bad", per se, as the plot is such a trainwreck of things happening with neither explanation nor consequence. Sure, the MTL is a big problem, but bad MTL only goes so far toward making a series unintelligble.

I’d really say its a combination and neither help each other (or they do but for the worse). The pacing IS all over the place and the plot is an incoherent mess, but at the same time you really can’t tell where that starts and ends (if at all) with the Machine translation. The MTL ruins any flow of the story and makes it really hard to focus.
