I knew a student who turned to prayer instead of studying or consulting with more successful students.
We were taking Classic Greek (and a tiny bit of Epic Greek). He was amongst those students whose interest in ancient Greek came from the use of it in the New Testament (though that is Koine Greek, which was a bit dumbed-down, to serve as a lingua franca).

So you know in school/college you get grades, typically going from A to F (depending on where in the world you live), he is saying that his grade was so bad that it was Z.

Its actually even more than what @tyfgmltm said. Students in Japan get a "school compatability" ranking, generally following a grading scale of A-E that represents how likely they are to get in.
