This is one of those gritty realism shoujo there was a fashion for years back. A bunch of people who are no better than they should be, randomly promiscuous, cheating on each other, lying, insecure, people with low self-esteem and plenty to have low self-esteem about. Some of the men are predatory bastards, and I'm not talking about candy-coated shoujo predatory bastards. All in all, a depressing bunch of train wrecks--but it's hard to look away. If you like that kind of thing it's a pretty decent rendition.
