Someday that dream sequence will become real I'm sure of it. Well, hopefully without the "we can't be friends" part.

So is the mermaid real or not? Whose dream sequence was that? It looked like Segawa's flashback initially. Was that two separate things?

She probably survived by pure luck, and the mermaid was just in her dream when she passed out.

It starts out as Segawa's flashback and ends with her on the beach looking out to sea and then leads straight into Koumoto's dream about Segawa... a bit odd and jarring, story generally has some odd pacing for me.

As for the mermaid, who knows, doubt they want you to have a definitive answer about it already, as it's quite a major part of the story.

i'm guessing the mermaid isn't real. probably a metaphor

I think the mermaid represents Segawa's longing for her (dead/lost) mom, and when she says she wants to find the mermaid it could mean she longs to find fulfillment or happiness.
