refs nowadays prioritize the play than a fault, also how didn't aim Ashito's feet and Ashito is clearly not injured.

shitty move but the ref was right.

Nah, I was on the ref's side in the previous play, this one is pretty clear-cut though. According to the official rules, even if Xhaka only made contact with the ball, such an overt action intended to impede the player actively playing the ball is a foul. For the exact same reason that the previous call was arguably reasonable, this call is patently unreasonable, because it was far more overt impeding. Even if Xhaka only touched the ball, using the ball to trip the player--even if unintentional--is an overt foul. The times it's not a foul is when you kick the ball out of the way and the player trips on their own (generally because they expected to make contact with the ball and didn't, causing their leg to overextend fro the force they were trying to use). Frankly I would say it's an immediate yellow card, or a red if the ref thinks it was intentional.

It's not physically possible for someone to flip over like this and have it not be a foul unless the ref genuinely believes they did a front flip on purpose. Which is an insane thing to think in this situation.

You can try to argue the ref isn't biased, but the only other option is that he's stupid as fuck. The last call was fine, this call would guarantee he never oversees an important match again, like that one Japanese ref who abused his power to help the Brazilians at the 2014 world cup. Yuichi Nishimura, his career was taking off and he was extremely well-respected (winning an award for best ref in asia in 2012) and he threw it all away, he hasn't officiated for FIFA since 2014.

Was it a foul tho it looks like Ashito collided into him as he tried to pull out of the way

Ref bullshit aside (Amazing we haven't had an instance of that until now in such a realistic sports manga) I hope the big news are the announcement of a sequel and not "just" a new anime season. Like, until we don't see an adult Ashito making dumb statements in interviews I don't want this manga to end lol

Good guy ref, he's getting Ashito used to the bullshit calls he'll have to face in La Liga or the Prem once he becomes a pro!
