Why develop Kanna's relationship with Tenichi when we know she won't be chosen?

It annoys me even more because she's clearly having a deeper relationship with him than Yoshino or Honoka, like, she's the only one between the three that made the effort to be liked by his family and know him better outside school, and she always has the most honest conversations with him.

Kanna being that genuine and Tenichi corresponding (although not romantically yet) really makes me think that if the author wanted us to like Yoshino more (since she'll almost certaily be Tenichi's pair in the end), he's not doing a good work.
