Now that the dust is settled, does one-sided love counts as romance? Funnily enough, the answer is maybe. Maybe because everyone confuses true love with romance, even my search engine.
Does this reading warrants a romance tag? I mean it is sweet, but the subject of child love is a tricky landmine to answer, so I'm gonna put it in "maybe yes" category. ^{FBI-kun dont raid my house.}

Tl;dr romance is subjective af instead follow your heart because thats what people in romance do.

The manga quite obviously has a romance theme and it's about the two characters dealing with their feelings for each other. It's irrelevant whether or not something actually happens or if said feelings are reciprocated, and for the scanlator to use the " literary sense" argument is quite laughable. By that logic, The Sun Also Rises and any other romance novel about unrequited love would not be romance novels.
