Appending to Rule 3.2.7 maximum allowed extraneous content

I was backchecking my old suggestions a bit, trying to find relevant ones that might need a bump and found this question of mine in the support forum.

The Manwha in question got DMCA nuked since then, but I think the rule against excessive extraneous content should be readded.

Something like "Extraneous content that is in front of any part of the chapter is limited to maximum 2 pages or 2 reader screen sizes in case of Long strip format." would be good, IMO.
It would still allow extra material to be added at the manga end, but stop such abominations like the group of that manwha had done back then, which was making the first 1/5th of the chapters a whining about people not reading on their website.

Scalding take: ban extraneous content. Put credits in the blank space between panels.
The three guys sitting on the sofa who translate that Yukizuriman comic by Hamita are funny and the animated fox telling us sexual advices is useful, but I can live without.

boiling take: put all extraneous content in one place for every scans, so those who can't live without live

Seldomly this is an issue for me.
Extraneous content I like:
  • Credit pages
  • Funny jokes
  • Notices (groups or author)
  • Artwork

Extraneous content, which was the problem you spoke of and which I also don't like:
  • Long ads
  • Ads that look like the chapter and aren't immediately recognizable

Another question is, what will groups do to channel viewers to their page, if they cannot put ads on chapters?

Will banning long ads at the start of the chapter lead to long ads at the end or other shenanigans?

The main problem I had was that back when the chapter still existed, one fifth of the chapter was an ad, in the long strip format, so not easily skipped. I could tell that it wasn't part of the series I read, the length at the beginning of the chapter in a mode where the reader wasn't easy to control was the problem.
Another question is, what will groups do to channel viewers to their page, if they cannot put ads on chapters?

Having them after all content would honestly be good enough, because then in can be easily skipped with the chapter control, which also makes it a less attractive thing to abuse.

I had a quick look at our rules page through the Internet Archive before v5 was released (2018–2021), but I couldn't find anything similar to what is suggested.
I'd be interested in seeing this alleged rule.

I vaguely recall a guideline recommending putting the credits/group page to the beginning of the chapter, but even if it was somewhere it was never enforced (I couldn't find it with the search tool). It would be more or less like trying to enforce a correct use of translator notes. The point was to only allow one single page of non-manga content.

I personally do like the idea of a guideline of 'only one page before content' - I could see the occasional justification for an exception, maybe, but it's annoying to have to click through very much to get to the first actual comic page. I would also agree that there's no need for a one or two page chapter to have four or five added pages of in-jokes, solicitations to come to the team's website and join the discord and donate, 'hey look at our other series', etc. - again, not sure a 'rule' is needed, but a guideline for how many additional pages are reasonable wouldn't be the worst idea to my mind.

It mainly is about the stuff pre-actual chapter. If the extra stuff is put after the chapter, then it can be easily skipped by pressing the next chapter button without missing anything.

Looking through the web archive for the rules and forum history, there doesn't seem to be any rules limiting the number of extraneous pages. But there 100% should be. I don't need a full page of your shitty inside jokes from discord, another full page of meme translations from the chapter I just read, a 3rd full page of begging for donations, a 4th page shilling your website, and a 5th page crediting staff and donators.

1 Credit page (jokes, links, donations, etc)
1+ Translation Notes pages
