He really shouldn't threatened that town lord and just go away as far as possible then use the poisoned golem a few weeks later to kill the lord, because it is as he said, by using the birdie, nobody will ever known if he is responsible for the lord's death. As it is, this lord will bear grudge and might cause problem for him in the future. Even if the next lord is ten times more horrible than the previous one, it won't cause problem for him as the next lord wouldn't harbor any malice to him.

@Euphaire: It's as you said, but with one thing to consider. If he would just have fled and the lord would have been given a few weeks time, that lord would have outlawed him. Therefore he would have had to kill him much earlier. But then again, if something would have happened to the lord, bitten by an insect or not, everyone would point their fingers at the mage, that fled (MC) or was accused. But imagine a monster would have attacked the town the moment they tried to blackmail him. Something like a huge ogre, that appeared in front of the town walls and broke through it. A totally unrelated attack. ... you see where I'm going? Of course MC would save the city a third time, but sadly too late to save the lord and every witness in that room.

So is he actually going to be watching him or is it a bluff. Or is he doing the half assed version where he only does something because he heard about it by chance.

I'll never understand why people always want MCs to kill. No sane 1st world country citizen has the balls to put an end to someone else's life without lasting mental trauma. If you're sitting here saying you would be able to do so without hesitation then you're just an edgy retard that'll shit their pants if someone pointed a butter knife at them with killing intent.

@Metasepia Totally agree. If anything, the way this chapter was written is indicative that this manga will only get better as time goes on

He should've just taken Gotthard-dono as some sort of recompense. Guy could teach him about the common sense of that world plus an extra set of hands would help. If that guy threatens Gotthard's family, he could set up that insect-golem trap as a threat.

Its fine not just to kill, but really? Being such a pussy? Why is that necessary? When someone trys to fuck you over, then trys to kill you, then trys to kill you again... somewhere has to be the point where to hit back... otherwise others will think they can try anything they want, because even if the fail, they wont die and just can try another time...

Gotthard is really smart and really dumb at the same time. He saved Matsuda from becoming an enemy of the crown but is stupid enough to follow that lords command to try and kill someone way stronger than himself. At least now Matsuda can get away with killing that noble because it was decided that Gothard acted on his own to try and assassinate Matsuda lol

@Silwith he felt sorry for the guy because he understood he is a company slave just like he was, doing what the boss says even when it's horrible just because they are the boss. Also, the boss noble is now cursed with infinite paranoia, which is a fate worst then death.

An single elf dare to threaten a Viscount, someone should report this to the King. He's dangerous not to mention, elves should just be a slave or pet. Making trouble in the territory of the superior human race...

Said Viscount was trying to frame him into having committed a crime.
That would be worse to be known by the general public.
Besides , it's not like he specifically threatened him, he merely showed some of his power and then repeatedly asked some questions, he never said what he would do if the answers weren't what he wanted. Or that's atleast how it could be reasoned.

These kinds of situations writers love are so poor. Dude's a viscount, he should know politics and power play, it's attempted to depict him as cunning, but he was acting really stupid. What I mean is, people don't take actions randomly, they have reasons, their character, things to consider, never would anyone with a smidgen of intelligence try and directly confront a powerful mage - they've seen his capabilities when he came to the town.
Like others mentioned, it's much easier to conspire against him on a larger scale - a lord's word is important, lies can be spun, the person himself isn't there to defend his case. Money lost as payment could easily then be recuperated and revenge - wait, there's nothing to avenge, it's just a greedy lord... and desires can be fulfilled by making the elf pay for the non-existent crimes.

Your comment felt like it was trying to portray the entire nobility of that nation as greedy, incompentent assholes if they actually agreed with the viscount, and then I Just was trying to detailed explain how him behaving like that, might seem like he's threatening, but he's actually not threatening according to most laws (I have a miniscule amount of legal knowledge, so I sometimes try to make valid arguments to weird situations just for fun)

This is an isekai. Any nobility not directly on the mc's side ARE greedy and incompetent assholes. Its practically a trope.
