No you fucking moron the biggest reason we don't execute people willy nilly is that it's rife for abuse especially with the rise of authoritarianism around the world. Some people who deserve to live die, some people who deserve to die live. Yeah I'm quoting LotR with this but it's easier said than done. It's why generally for something like treason or something super vile only then will the death penalty apply. And it's usually having a lot of money that lets you get away with a lot of shit (diddy getting a slap on the wrist, certain people on a certain island but let's not turn this comments on a guilty pleasure slop manga to a political battleground) and having neutral justice is extremely hard to achieve else you get fucking saudi arabia where you get executed for the most random shit
Are you sure about this?
Even USA had death sentence and it was "Democratic" from it's inception.
Death sentence and forced labor camps are too un-humane that's why we see abolition of death sentence's.
Next point it's for the rich people themselves (so called elites). Usually, you have to do something massive or gruesome to get death sentence or life in labor camp. Excluding psychopaths usually very rich people tend to do massive shit. (They have the means, not that they are inherently evil)
In many places around the world there is no death sentence or labor camps.
So even your "Treason" or vile statement doesn't apply to many states and countries.
Breivik (Norway) - Killed a lot of youngsters and blew cars. Due to Norwegian system the maximum he can get is only 20 years. Now if he were to be released, we are at risk of getting massive killings again.
Are we willing to be the victims of his whims? I'm pretty sure NO ONE IS.
I'm pretty sure humane laws that are set right now, will be reversed soon enough. We will have draconian sentences once again, "humane" system proved us that it doesn't work as we intended. Bad people aren't as afraid of getting caught or doing something evil.
Last point: The major detergent for any crime are two factors
1) Ability to find crime and prove it (the major one)
2) Severity of the sentence (If severity is light or almost non-existent, even if prosecution and investigation was at 100%, some crimes are worth doing. For example if i kill 2 people and get $500k and only 2 year sentence for that, i'm pretty sure we would have a lot of hitmen running around)
With #2 you have to play carefully set it too light and people don't care if they are caught, set it too severe and people get explosive when being caught. Right now, they are too light, when a person who abused a few children get's only 4years they aren't afraid.
When a drug trafficker get's 2 years (but earns roughly $200k+ a year), it's worth the risk.
