Now into the chapter, the manga so far has been a lot more respectful to the series than the anime. Just from this chapter alone.

That really is his problem. He is good at everything. He has literally in his entire life never struggled at one single thing Until his battle with that demon. Thus, never once in his entire life has he ever been challenged or had his beliefs tested, which makes it very hard for him to admit when he’s wrong

"Hero" is a title thats bestowed by the people after the person does something heroic. It is not about strength, but actions.
When it is bestowed before said action, then it becomes a job title, no different than a farmer, no more, or less, amazing.

A chad like Himmel in Frieren deserves the title of Hero because of what he did, not because he was strong. And, as expected, he was never called a Hero before he took action. Whereas all these isekai cheat 'heroes' got their title before they even started the journey. Its a title saying they had power, not that they are heroic. Its a common difference.

You are only seeing one half of it. The other half of it is people bestowing the title on someone to force them to do most of the work, possibly sacrificing their own life to do it. So that especially those in power could pretend they arranged all of it and everything was going according to their plans when the hero was beating their enemies. The king/queen, whatever, barely needed to do anything, but since they named (summoned) the hero, it was their honour as well when the hero secured the victory. If the hero fails, people can put all the blame on him, thus avoiding feeling too bad about their own lack of personal effort.

You are only seeing one half of it. The other half of it is people bestowing the title on someone to force them to do most of the work, possibly sacrificing their own life to do it. So that especially those in power could pretend they arranged all of it and everything was going according to their plans when the hero was beating their enemies. The king/queen, whatever, barely needed to do anything, but since they named (summoned) the hero, it was their honour as well when the hero secured the victory. Having just finished the available anime... you've only got 10% of it.
As-is ( and this isn't already Telegraphed at all so far... really... if you missed this.... ummmm...), part of this story is about the juxtaposition of the Hero and the anti-Hero tropes.
The main problem is... the anime speedruns stuff... and then spends entire episodes on... Personal Growth/Background.

So in Manga terms.. ummm.. [starts counting fingers, proceeds to toes, borrows neighbours' digits for help...]
At current speed/publication rate, I will have officially become a Pensioner, in roughly a decade, before the Manga gets to where the Anime is now...
Honestly... no helping the fights and the walls of exposition, even in the bloody anime...
The Hero bit will resolved in that timeframe... or Axe-kun pays a Visit.


But Hajime got...MC/Plot Disease... in three cases. And the Hero is one of them, IMNSHO. On several occasions, at several occasions. And the final one takes the Cake.... That's 5 times Hajime failed to just off an obvious and declared "personal" enemy... Even if it's a classmate... Deadpool Disapproves....
