You know the MC could have simply said that it is short-sighted to save every beastman in front of you instead of going for more societal/subtle methods first. Then again, Kouki is the self-righteous type so that might not have worked.

I think that he needs a bitter lesson to see the bigger picture. right now he is only looking at the small details and is extrmely narrowsighted.

I generally commend that Kouki tries to help the weak and has a strong sense of justice; however, in this case, I am definitely on Hajime's side, because if you rush in without assessing the situation, you make everything much worse than it already is. It's often better to just grit your teeth, accept injustice for some time and wait for the right time to strike. In this case, once the prisoners are located, at least.

Or be Hajime and beat the crap out of everyone whenever you feel like it. :dogkek:

Well to play devils advocate, while Kouki might not be able to and thus shouldn't act, Hajime does have the power to save everyone.

At what price? With how much collateral damage amongst civilians and beastmen? With how much chance the Empire would somehow re-organise and go on a Crusade of eradication?

It's an Empire, not some isolated town or village...

Not quite.

Hajime has the power to level the city, which is a very different thing from liberating all the slaves.

Hajime has the same issue that an airforce strike group does - they can absolutely wreck everything in the area, but they can't hold any ground. That's just not what they do.

Hajime could absolutely plunge the Empire into anarchy, but all that would change is who owns the slaves.

RIP Kouki getting isekaid into the wrong genre. He has no plot armor to serve his ideals.

What does it mean to "save everyone"? Free then from their shackles? Ok; then what? Where do they go after that? How do they get there? What do they do once they arrive?

Hajime has abysmally low charisma sometimes, but his overall position here is a sensible one. This won't be like taking home a dog you found at the park. If it were one or perhaps two slaves, that would be a different story; that could perhaps be reasonably accommodated. But that still leaves the issue of people are going to try to stop them, and when they inevitably can't, they'll call for soldiers, and when they can't stop them either, they'll call for more soldiers.

There is no path here where freeing slaves does not draw them into conflict with the city, and then what? While there certainly is truth to the statement that "you can just do things," your can't just do them without consequences.

You are only thinking of going full death star obliteration mode. Thats not the only thing that can be done.

Fair. If your definition of "saving" is to provide for them until they are capable of providing for and protecting themselves, then yes, saving them would be a long and hard road, if it is possible at all. I was more thinking just the "free them from shackles" portion though.
