Yeah, the anime was toned down in many aspects, at least compared to the WN, dunno about the LN. But that's what usually happens with anime adaptations.

@Solemmaru a lot of anime deviate from the original source. Since the anime caught up to the manga, they had to come up with anime original content. It happens all the time. Akame ga Kill for example became a shit show once the anime caught up to the manga and they had to write their own stuff.

@warhawktroop yeah it was so terrible i couldn't bare to watch it. The CGI graphics-wise isn't that bad but the animation is the abysmal part. It actually stands out to me more than that marchen madchen for me (url syntax doesnt work? https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2018/03/24/marchen-madchen-a-production-postmortem)

On the other hand this season has some pretty amazing graphics but terrible stories.

If I was the author and they gave me a preview of this quality, I would've probably refused and waited for another company to do the offer. Heck you could see the poor quality in the promotional video too. There are children younger than 10 years old that have produced higher quality works.
