Kind of interesting to see how the Japanese version of overworking nearly always leads to physical collapse, while in the West you more often see a mental decline accompanied by physical decline. Makes me wonder how the Japanese view burn out.

Glad to see she's back on her feet!

@SpacyRicochet I worked at a storage facility and the daily leader was constantly stressed and one day he collapsed.... We had to call an ambulance for him... He made the wise decision to quit and find another place that didn't treated their employees like something to be worked into the ground.... So it do happen... People react in many different to stress...

@Nestrac I don't doubt it actually happens. In my experience, people falter in all kinds of ways.

But how overwork and stress are _usually_ portrayed in the media varies wildly it appears. You don't see people dropping like flies due to overwork in Western TV usually; instead, they start to crack under pressure and are sent to a vacation or a therapist of some kind. In Japanese media; their body collapses under the pressure and it's recuperation time in the hospital.

The same happens with the common cold. In the West, the common cold is usually portrayed as a nuisance, but you're still mostly fine. In Japanese media, the moment someone even has hints of the common cold, they are immediately bombarded with suggestions to go to the doctor, the hospital and take care of what will inevitably be a 40 degrees fever.

Again, no judgement calls on this and I'm not saying that some things don't happen in the West or in Japan. But the difference in portrayal is interesting.

@SpacyRicochet there is no "Japanese" or "West" versions of overworking. Overworking is overworking. If you lack sleep and food you will collapse.

Yes, but tropes often have reasons for existing. SpacyRicochet is observing how the media of different cultures portray things differently.

@Panino I'm facepalming right now. It's a difference in amount of work and sleep and food. Don't want to be rude but are you autistic and have problems with understanding cultural and social differences? like the fact that in japan most blue and white collar workers lack sleep and constantly work overtime?

"Just to be safe we should let some blood." Yea, how about no! That'll make it worse. Thanks, old superstitions.

You never seen the "anemia" card being used in manga and anime?
like the fact that in japan most blue and white collar workers lack sleep and constantly work overtime?
And maybe this "anemia tropes" don't comes from thin air, maybe their food lacks a bit of iron compared to other cultures. I remember that a certain foreigner football coach made this team eat beans to become stronger.

About overworking, too much stress can inflict many bad condition to the person. Overworking can lead to death, and usually pop culture portrays that in a way that people can remember, like collapsing or getting badly sick. In my country, many people died of stroke because of overworking. And if you look closely, Arte also have some mental stress in this chapter. Not eating properly + mental stress? No wonder she collapses.

Also, art imitates life. I'm sure there's some incident like this somewhere in the world. So i don't think it's weird.
