ngl I skipped the majority of the arc where Arte went to Messer Yuri's place and only returned reading to when she came back and.... I really didn't miss much. Feels like that arc was honestly just pointless.

Thank for this... It true for any occupation that happiness should be more important than fame and fortune..... while money make the life easier and can contribute to happiness it can also make it miserable... And I'm looking forward to Arte's next adventure...

Aaa, I'm glad Arte knows that she doesn't have to rush and is willing to just enjoy the present.
It's really a joy to see her enjoying herself with her work.

I understand why you didn't enjoy it as much, but that arc is not pointless because this manga is about:

1. Arte's personal development (including her romantic feelings for her master)

2. Arte growth as a professional artist, and how professionals work during the time period

3. Gender/social disparity during the time period itself, and how people--especially women--may cope with it.

1. wasn't given much attention during that arc, but 2. and 3. have clearly been developed.

@cgr yes, I get that, but the fact that the recent chapters keep rephrasing the events, to the point that I know the basic gist of what happened during her trip without actually reading it, makes it feel rather pointless.

For reference, I stopped sometime in the chapter when Arte starts being serious helping the brat. I know the brat develops into a more matured person coz of her appearance in the chapter Arte returns. I also know that Arte was offered a chance to have that family as her patron, which she declined. From the gist of how things went, the only very important bit is that she was good enough to draw the eye of a very influential family but declined it. All the development of her fighting the ancient sexism only resumes once she goes back to Flourence. And the current arc, which is just a few chaps after she returns, that's when we tackle a very substantial character growth for her, which is what is her goal for being an artist.

Arte might have grown more in understanding art during her stay (which I have to agree, the jump of her skill level between before and after her leaving is fairly obvious) but that part you can just fill in with imagination.

Except that "recap" misses the several chapter development of Arte realizing that the previous hinderances to her being an artist could in fact be, and have been, strengths for her career. Not to mention the undercurrent of why she refused to stay in Venice. It wasn't entirely for "bigger and better patrons" as she claimed, but also because she missed Leo and her network back in Florence which is pretty noteworthy on the romance front whether Arte herself even realizes it yet.

Refering back to previous events to recontextualize them doesn't make them pointless, that's how stories convey underlying themes and character development.

just because there are flashbacks to previous arcs/events it doesn't make the the previous arcs/events pointless because there would be a weird continuity gap for readers. and as ilikepi31415 stated, for underlying themes and character development

All the development of her fighting the ancient sexism only resumes once she goes back to Flourence.
Arte and some other females characters fight sexism in many different ways in this manga, and sexism happened in some different ways during that arc, so by saying 'sexism only resumes' you are denying a constant conflict in this manga

From the gist of how things went, the only very important bit is that she was good enough to draw the eye of a very influential family but declined it.
Based on the summary of events, that's correct, but based on the details of the events (which you haven't read), a lot or readers (like me) would agree that is incorrect.

the jump of her skill level between before and after her leaving is fairly obvious
Yes, but that's not what I'm referring to when I describe 'Arte growth as a professional artist',
I am referring to Arte learning: differing opinions (both positive and neutral/slightly negative) about her art, how to interact with different nobles as a professional artist, some other duties of a professional, etc.

Also, the gender/social (class) disparity details the manga has shown us during that arc will likely be more relevant when Arte works for nobility again.

I was waiting for the chapter to finish to come here make the comment, "at this rate Concetta will fall for Arte".
Oh boy... I'M the one who might fall for Concetta, bravo Arte, bravo!

And the end of the chapter was scary, almost feared that Arte would start to think that she wished for more.

Changing subjects, did you watch the anime?
DISAPPOINTING!
Holy crap, it's average, which isn't bad, but it's dangerous close to being bad. The more I talk the more I see how the anime misses the point.

Dude... they keep "rephrasing the events" exactly because that arc was relevant!
If Arte had not went to Venice and lived that experience she may had made the decision and mistake of taking another opportunity to leave Leo for a big patron.
But specially, the manga was not only about "fighting the ancient sexism". That's why Arte is good, because it's not just about that, don't insist on hamming only that. This was once again touched during her time in Venice. There Arte realizes that, yes, even being a she is privileged. Because she is a woman, because she is from a noble name, she has a lot of opportunities that other man will never have.

@Panino: yes, I'm watching the anime and everytime the Japanese dub says something in Italian (IT Firence -> ENG Florence) it's feels strange that they are saying it correctly XD
that aside, the anime is good but can be better... a lot better
