This is 100% believable. We’ve proven time and again our capacity for inhumanity against other actual human beings is limitless, how do you think we‘d treat those we could easily be mistaken for believing are nothing more than “objects”? Plus, I don’t have much faith in my own government passing regulatory laws on new technologies, they’re still struggling to wrap their heads around social media.

Eh.... That is anything but universal. And if we go by how humans have treated other humans throughout history, honestly it is more believable to have functionally aex slaves given this very thing still happens in today's world frequently just outside first world places ..

You forget one thing, in modern days governments will do everything in their power to stay in control, which is why China started putting rules around algorythms and generative AIs since 2023 and EU and the US quickly followed. The regulations will keep increasing
edit: obviously I'm talking about sentient AIs, sex bots are already a thing
