This story is actually more about the drama of the young generation growing up rather than the competiton, what a let-down.
It was the sport and competition that was reeling me in.
Any romance story in a school setting does exactly the same thing otherwise, this is not being much more interesting than those.

I'm not saying this type of story isn't interesting per se, just that it's the content of 80% of school manga that are on the market, which actually also take a big part of manga culture as a whole too, so it clicky becomes uninteresting to read the same type of tropes over and over.
And that's a shame.
