If I'm not mistaken, the father was there in the same scene with mom and granny. Also unless it's a mistranslation, page 48 has him yelling "I can't accept you and dad ceasing to exist" at his mother.

So it looks like all the adults in their family, including their father, sacrificed their reincarnations so that the brothers could be transmigrated.
