Kinda feels like the translation is off with the shifting relative terms for the disciples. The teacher stated one disciple was her cousin, yet both refer to the teacher as sister? And the disciples are listed as siblings in the middle..

I wonder what's going on with that exp rare ingot crap. Most execs wouldn't approve that sort of thing, and it's weird to recycle enough material to make the same sized weapon.

Shigure is MC's cousin. Kuro refers to Shigure as "Shigure-oneechan" for some reason, and Shigure's disciples also have this weird thing going on where they refer to each other as siblings. I literally have no idea what I could do to make this clear. Should I scrap the weird sibling system of the disciples with the translation instead?

I'm not that informed about martial arts hierarchies, but those that refer to each other as siblings seem to just be big/younger brother/sister depending on their hierarchical position; the sudden cousin seems off, but I'm not a translator either, etc. If the raws really did have them shifting all over the place, a translator notes at least acknowledging it is nice

I think you should just put this as a TL note somewhere because this explanation makes it more clear

If localization is butchering things too much, then take a step back and just explain the cultural innuendoes on a footnote or something. It's not like we're pretending they're americans or something.

Calling them martial sisters would be slightly clearer but a lot more awkward

The Nioh franchise does something roughly similar. Using a weapon increases its familiarity, which in turn increases its attack power. Additionally, every piece of gear has multiple special effects, the exact number depending on rarity; among these effects are ones with an icon that marks them as "inheritable".

This comes into play with a feature of the blacksmith called Soul match, through which you can either use a higher level item to increase the level (and thus power) of a lower level item (which is horrendously inefficient the higher you go) or it can be used to transfer an inheritable effect from an item with max familiarity onto another item.

All this to say, it's not that unusual of an idea, so I could see it getting implemented elsewhere.

wow I fucking hate the new character and her entire guild already. I'm hoping we see less of her or she becomes something better than just "battle maniac with no fucking manner".

thanks for the chapter.

Modifiers is very different from base materials, particularly NEW base materials. This can be used to skip content, which is pretty bad in 90% of scenarios. Even skill or modifier mutations is very dicey stuff that SMT experiments with to purposely break their system.

Especially at what looks to be majority recycle efficiency, since there's very little money/material sink in such a scenario. Even SAO didn't fall for that trap.

It would maybe work for one-time familiarity upgrades, letting you bump minor resistance into medium resistance so you can pioneer a new location that has medium resistance base material. Consecutive upgrades is already in living gear territory.

Really surprised people are confused about the sister thing.

I wonder what kind of mentor this Shigure is. Sora is new to the game, so it's not a mentor for this game. They acted like they are martial artists, but they said Shigure is a pro gamer. So, I'm guessing she teaches people how to move efficiently in any VR game? That's a weird mentorship lol.
I wish the manga does better world building.

I'm assuming you have made a change, because I don't see any of this confusion.
But onee-chan and onii-chan are pretty loaded words. They are not just used for blood related siblings. It's also used to call someone older than you who aren't uncle/aunty. In this case, I think Kuro just feels close and respect Shigure like an older sister.

As for referring to fellow disciples, that seems to just be the word for senior/junior disciple. 兄弟子
There's no entry for imoutodeshi, but there's an entry for otoutodeshi. I'm assuming it's simply just different gendered word.
