Might be that the rice for livestock isn't "good enough" for human consumption. You'd think something that's just used as livestock food and not fit for humans (in their minds) would be everywhere except for a city specializing in food for human consumption 🤨
food culture always evolved with time. and don't forget that in the beginning, food is usually cooked boiled or grilled. You'd think something that's just used as livestock food and not fit for humans (in their minds) would be everywhere except for a city specializing in food for human consumption 🤨
Preparation has nothing to do with my point. Logically you'd go looking at the rice near you that is being used for livestock to see if it's usable. Instead he is just gonna fly to another town (so assuming it's pretty far away) that is based around food to get a food that isn't consumed by humans.... literally makes no logical sensefood culture always evolved with time. and don't forget that in the beginning, food is usually cooked boiled or grilled.
grilled rice is just a no-no. and boiled rice will be bad if you don't remove the husk.
trivia : potato used to be a decorative plant, because it is considered poisonous. tomatoes used to be considered an evil food because of the colour. same thing with octopi because of their appearance.
Damn devilfish, look at the malice in those eyes, and know that the only way something has that many hearts, is if it took them from someone else.same thing with octopi because of their appearance.
It goes well with meat /can take away greasiness/calm down spice but I don’t think I’ve ever had steamed rice by itself (I see the appeal of adding an egg into it but at that point I’d just want fried eggs or like an omelette /sandwich if I wanted carbs) cept maybe instant orange rice and even then I’d prefer it as a hot side to tacos at my usual placeAs always it's the Japanese guy going insane over rice. At least he didn't spend an entire chapter showing them how plain white rice is the most superior dish around and better than even the most gourmet fantasy food.
It is kinda funny though that usually when one is brought up like this it generally is regarded as livestock feed rather than anything else.

Wonder what typecast this one will beNew waifu?
Modern Japanese rice, like most modern grains/produce, is absolutely nothing like the wild plant it originated from because it has been transformed by millenia of selective breeding for grains that are easy to remove the husk and polish and that produce soft, sweet, and slightly sticky rice. Going to a gourmet focused city said to have practically every good food in the world is actually his best bet at finding anything resembling modern rice let alone Japanese short grain rice given that no one would ever put that kind of effort into selectively breeding livestock grain but a rich gourmet might have the resources and motivation to do it.Pre

Let me fix that right now, thanks. I read it before uploading, after uploading, and even on other sites. My eyes just didn't catch it.“Do you know about it?” Wait, didn’t he have rice at that one tavern with the fat chested waitress or was that a mistranslation
Small misspelling of “cheered” up
Ehm, the potatoes are actually poisonous. The tuber not so much, unless you eat a green one, but the plant itself or the fruit can have quite dangerous level of alkaloids.food culture always evolved with time. and don't forget that in the beginning, food is usually cooked boiled or grilled.

I blame nostalgia for this, plus most of these isekais are set in more or less medieval, European culture which obviously have different cuisine/palate than the Japanese/Asian one.As always it's the Japanese guy going insane over rice.
